ANOTHER LOOK! Toho Cinemas' 'Godzilla Minus One' Display!

Is there a bit of symbolism here? Photo by Brett Homenick.

Yesterday (Thursday, January 18), I was at Toho Cinemas Shinjuku and photographed the Godzilla Minus One (2023) display in the lobby. Here's what I saw. Enjoy!

The Trouble with Toy Dispensers

A toy dispenser in Toho Cinemas Shinjuku with lots of Toho kaiju goodness inside. Photo by Brett Homenick.

Earlier today, I briefly stopped by Toho Cinemas Shinjuku with the hope that I might find the toy dispenser I'd recently heard about that offers four different Toho kaiju, of which I was particularly interested in Sanda and Gaira from The War of the Gargantuas (1966). But, hey, Godzilla and Gigan aren't half bad, either. In any case, I was in luck because there it was!

Well, it didn't take me long to realize that I didn't have enough change on hand, so I went ahead and bought a small trinket (in this case, a Godzilla-themed magnet) in order to make more change. The cashier gave me exactly what I needed -- a 500-yen coin! Or so I thought.

While I had the exact amount of change I needed, I found out real quick that the machine didn't accept 500-yen coins. No way was I going to make change again when I already had a pocketful of it. Much like Jumpin' Jeff Farmer, I don't like it when things aren't going my way, so I metaphorically threw up my hands and gave up. Oh, well. Maybe next time.

Out and About in Shinjuku!

On the way home today, I stopped by Toho Cinemas Shinjuku and spotted the Godzilla-themed claw machines seen above and below. I don't believe they were there the last time I was in the theater, so I decided to snap a couple of pictures.

And another one! Photo by Brett Homenick.

The other thing that caight my attention was the massive banner promoting the upcoming release (in Japan) of Ridley Scott's Napoleon (2023), starring Joaquin Phoenix. The banner correctly notes that Phoenix won the Best Actor Oscar for Joker (2019), which remains untouched as the best film of the previous decade -- and then some.

I'll certainly be checking out Napoleon once it's released here. I don't think it will reach the heights that Joker did, but I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Revisiting the Godzilla Head in Shinjuku!

The Godzilla head in Shinjuku. Photo by Brett Homenick.

Today (Sunday, October 29), I visited the Godzilla head at the Hotel Gracery Shinjuku with my friend Jacob, who's visiting from the U.S. Instead of a thousand words, here's almost a thousand pictures -- enjoy!

'Godzilla Minus One' Stomps Its Way into Shinjuku!

Shinjuku gears up for Godzilla Minus One. Photo by Brett Homenick.

Shinjuku has received its fair share of ballyhoo for the upcoming release of Godzilla Minus One (2023), due in theaters on November 3. Interestingly, the new Godzilla flick has to share some ad space with Gareth "Stone Age" Edwards' latest joint, The Creator (2023). Anyway, here's how Toho Cinemas Shinjuku looks at the moment. Enjoy!

Out and About in Shinjuku!

A Godzilla vs. Mothra-themed manhole cover in Shinjuku. Photo by Brett Homenick.

While out and about in Shinjuku yesterday, I visited the regular spots in and around Toho Cinemas Shinjuku and the Hotel Gracery. I don't know if these were new additions, but I never noticed the two Godzilla-themed manhole covers seen in this blog post. (Maybe I should remember to look down more often!) Anyway, there was a lot to see, so let's get to it!
