The Heisei-Era Godzilla Statue Stomps into Toho Cinemas!

Godzilla's been sighted! Photo by Brett Homenick.

The Heisei-era Godzilla statue that used to adorn Hibiya Chanter Square has been relocated to the Toho Cinemas on the fourth floor of Tokyo Midtown Hibiya, and in case you were wondering how it looks in its new home, wonder no more!

HIBIYA GODZILLA SQUARE! The New Shin Godzilla Statue Is Finally Unveiled!

Shin Godzilla seems to be crying to the heavens, "Why, oh, why did you replace the old statue?" Photo by Brett Homenick.

I stopped by the newly renovated (and renamed) Hibiya Godzilla Square today to take a look at the brand-new Shin Godzilla statue. All I can say is, I miss the old one (even if it's simply being relocated a short distance away). Also missing was the Walk of Fame-style area with the names (and hand casts) of various Toho stars. That's progress for you. Anyway, here are the pics.

The Case of the Missing Godzilla Statue

Notice anything missing? Photo by Brett Homenick.

While in Hibiya today, I decided to stop by Hibiya Chanter to take another look at the Godzilla statue, and to my surprise, it wasn't there! The entire square is under renovation, and it seems things won't return to normal until late March 2018. So, if you're booking a trip to Japan and want to see the Godzilla statue in Hibiya, keep this in mind.

It certainly was strange to see Hibiya Chanter in such rough shape. It almost looked like Godzilla broke loose from the statue and razed the area!

While in Ginza yesterday, I walked to Hibiya Chanter and had a bit of fun taking photos of the Godzilla statue. Enjoy the photos!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2015 Kicks Off in a Big Way!

Visiting Godzilla series composer Riichiro Manabe in Kanagawa Prefecture.

January has finally arrived, and with it has come a new year. Things have already gotten busy. On January 2, I went to Kanagawa to see composer Riichiro Manabe and give him my holiday greetings personally. I brought him two boxes of manju, which he always enjoys. It's always a treat to see Manabe-san.

On the way back, I snapped a few photos of Odawara Castle from Odawara Station. With the birds flying nearby and sunset taking place, I thought the photos turned out rather well.

On January 3, my friend Yasushi and I paid a visit to Ultraman Ace actress Keiko Nishi at her cafe. Yasushi and I spent an enjoyable morning chatting with her and catching up on several topics. It was wonderful to she how well she was doing at the start of the new year.

We finished the morning taking some obligatory photos at the Godzilla statue at Hibiya Chanter Square. See how I dressed up for the occasion?

January is already off to a great start. Other events are in the works, so stay tuned!
