Visiting Bronson Caves!

One destination I've been meaning to visit in Los Angeles for years but simply never got around to seeing was Bronson Caves in Griffith Park, a notable filming location for all kinds of movies and TV programs since the silent era. Robot Monster (1953) and a slew of 1950s Roger Corman flicks have used the caves as a location, and it's even featured in the American version of Varan the Unbelievable (1958), giving it a slight Toho connection, too.

On Tuesday, November 4, I made the trek to Bronson Caves and spent a few moments in a prominent filming location for countless films. Here's what I saw. Enjoy!

Today, I attended the first day of the Tokyo Comic Con. It's the only day I could attend the convention, and my overall reaction was that it was okay. The event was held at Makuhari Messe in Chiba City, which is far from the center of Tokyo. I was surprised to see that the event itself was smaller in size than Wonder Festival, even though I'd say that both events are quite similar.

Aside from bumping into cult director Minoru Kawasaki, I didn't see any familiar faces from the world of tokusatsu. Anyway, I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. Enjoy! 

Remembering Francine York

On January 6, actress Francine York, a staple of television during the 1960s, passed away after a battle with cancer. She played the Bookworm's henchwoman Lydia Limpet on the Adam West Batman TV series and also appeared on such shows as Perry Mason and Lost in Space. Her film roles range from Mutiny in Outer Space (1965) to The Nutty Professor (1963).

While attending The Hollywood Show in July 2010, I briefly met Ms. York at her autograph table and spoke to her about her work on Batman. I'll always remember her kindness. Rest in peace.

BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN, TOHO-STYLE! Shinjuku Will Never Be the Same!

While going to the movies today at Toho Cinemas Shinjuku, I saw some life-size statues of Batman and Superman, promoting the new movie with the iconic superheroes. No, I didn't see this particular film, but I thought the statues were worth sharing. Enjoy!

Odaiba's Nostalgic Car Show

I attended the Nostalgic Car Show in Odaiba, Tokyo, this weekend, the first show of this type I've ever seen. On hand were Yasushi Shiroi's famous remodeled car designed to look like the Pointer from Ultra Seven and the Batmobile from Tim Burton's Batman (1989). With that out of the way, let's check out the highlights!
