RIP, Julie Adams

Word has circulated that Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) star Julie Adams has passed away. I had the privilege of meeting her twice at L.A.-area conventions. The first time (in May 2009) wasn't very memorable; it was a just brief encounter. The second time (in April 2010) was much better, as I got to spend quite a bit of time at her table and talk to her about a variety of subjects, most of which had nothing to do with Creature. (Confession time: I'm not a big fan of the movie.) She was enormously friendly, and even though I met a lot of guests at that convention, she essentially tied with Son of Frankenstein's Donnie Dunagan as my favorite. I'll always appreciate the kindness she showed me.

Rest in peace, Ms. Adams.

SHOCK THEATRE, CHICAGO STYLE! Donald F. Glut's Celebration of Monster Kid Madness!

Although I've known about it for a while, I was recently reminded that Donald F. Glut credited me in the acknowledgements of his 2012 tome Shock Theatre, Chicago Style. What makes this particular acknowledgement so cool to me is that I grew up with Don Glut's The Dinosaur Scrapbook. Back in the late '80s and early '90s (you know, those days before the Internet), The Dinosaur Scrapbook was an important resource in finding out about the more obscure monster movies out there, both American and Asian.  

Even though my name is just slightly misspelled, it's wonderful to be credited in a book by Donald F. Glut. If you're interested in finding out more about how Shock Theatre invaded Chi-town during the late 1950s, do yourself a favor and buy Don Glut's book today!
