Jay Johnson and Mike Huckabee find out "what's up"

Jay Johnson meets Gov. Mike Huckabee. Could this be the GOP ticket for 2012? Photo courtesy Jay Johnson.

I received a phone call from Jay Johnson a few minutes ago. He's in New York, fresh from recording his appearance on former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee's Fox News talk show. (Jay's band Skinny Molly performed live music on the program.) Before turning in for the night, he wanted to give me a call and let me know how the taping went. After the call, he e-mailed me the pictures that accompany this post.

Jay told me an interesting bit of information. It turns out that the governor is a huge fan of What's Up, Tiger Lily?, the Toho spy caper that Woody Allen made into a successful comedy in the 1960s. After learning of Gov. Huckabee's admiration of the film, Jay told the governor that he's met several people from the movie. How's that for coincidence?

The episode with Jay's appearance should be rebroadcast this weekend, so check your local listings. All I can say is, congratulations, Jay!

Jay Johnson to appear on Mike Huckabee's talk show

Haruo Nakajima replenishes a thirsty Jay Johnson at G-FEST 2008. Mr. Nakajima's daughter, Sonoe, looks on.

While Muscle Shoals had The Swampers, Mike Huckabee's Fox News program has Skinny Molly, whose guitarist/vocalist is none other than Jay Johnson, who has attended G-FEST and G-CON since 1995. This Saturday sees the national debut of Skinny Molly on the former Arkansas governor's talk show.

Sidelong Glances of a Pigeon Kicker does not endorse the views of Mike Huckabee or Fox News, but it does endorse Jay Johnson, who quite simply kicks ass.

More information comes from the band's press release, which is below. Congratulations, Jay!
Skinny Molly will be appearing on former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee’s show “Huckabee” on Fox News this Saturday, January 16, 2010 (8:00 p.m. EST and 7:00 p.m. CST). The band will be performing their new single “Mr. President.”
The song is the band’s musical commentary on the current political climate. It’s
available for download on Skinny Molly’s website www.skinnymollyrocks.com and
the song’s debut performance will actually be on the Presidential candidate’s
weekly nationally televised show. “Huckabee” is the number one cable news show
in the United States with a viewership averaging 1.7 million people.
Guitarist/Vocalist Jay Johnson (Blackfoot, Rossington Band) will be joining
Skinny Molly on “Huckabee” as well as the upcoming European Winter Tour which
begins on January 28, 2010 in Wales. The tour will take Skinny Molly through the
United Kingdom, Spain, Holland and Belgium and is sure to be one the band’s most
exciting tours yet. New original songs are planned, as are many more surprises.
Update: Skinny Molly reports:
